Welcome to Sunday Reset
Happy Sunday Reader,
October started this week, and it's also my birthday month, October 2nd to be exact, so instead of handing you one book at a time, I'm handing you the whole calendar as my gift to you.
This Week's Classroom Reset Question:
If you had one read aloud ready for every single day in October, would you actually use it, or would it sit in a folder like the rest?
This Week's Lesson Plan:
A day by day picture book pairing for every day in October, tied to the real national days your students already notice, tacos, cupcakes, pumpkins, sports, all the way through Halloween. Full grid is your freebie below.
Upcoming Events:
October 2, National Custodial Workers Day
October 16, National Sports Day, paired with Chris Paul's The Long Shot
October 22, Make a Difference Day
October 31, Halloween, the day the whole month has been building to
TOOLKIT:
3 things a monthly calendar does that a single unit can't:
It gives you a book ready for the five minutes before dismissal on a day your real lesson already ran long.
It ties reading to a day students already care about, a taco, a cupcake, a costume, instead of asking them to care about the book first.
It means October doesn't need a brand new plan from you, just a calendar and a shelf.
What this looks like in real life:
Another birthday has me thinking about the version of me who used to build an entire new unit from scratch every single week. It worked, but it wasn't sustainable. This calendar is the version of planning I want now, which would be one grid, one shelf, a month already done.
This week's action item:
Pick three days from the calendar you can pull off this week, and put those books on hold now, not the morning of.
A Reminder:
Fall resources keep going up in the shop as October moves along, so what's below isn't the whole list, just what's ready right now.
